ICE Scotland Summer Tour [various locations] ...

The Panel for Historical Engineering Works Summer Tour, organised by Institution of Civil Engineers will be visiting the Caledonian Canal, the Ullapool road, and Upper Moray Firth, 29 June to 1 July, 2018.

The visit includes two night's accommodation at the Lovat Arms hotel in Beauly. Travel will be by coach. The cost for two days Dinner, Bed & Breakfast, and three days coach will be £280-300 per person.

Members and members of the public wishing to join for one day only will be most welcome.

Provisionally the visit will include Strathpeffer Station, The Conon Hydroelectric scheme (Loch Glascarnoch dam), Corrieshalloch Gorge suspension bridge, Auchidrean Bridge (Fowler), and Ullapool harbour on Friday.

Various structures on the Caledonian Canal, Invergarry Station, White bridge and Bridge of Oich (Dredge) on Saturday and Culloden viaduct, Nairn town bridge, Burghead Harbour, Findhorn viaduct, Forres, and the Spynie Canal, Lossiemouth on Sunday. There will also be an opportunity to look at Lovat Bridge in Beauly.

The visit will start in Beauly at 9am on Friday 29 June and finish c.5pm on the Sunday, in Inverness. For anyone wanting to stay overnight on Thursday or Sunday evening the cost of each additional night's DBB is £82pp.

Re-enactments: Highland Rising 1746 [Newtonmore] ...

“Highland Rising 1746” – Jacobite and Redcoat Re-enactment Weekend – Sat 30 June & Sun 1 July, from 11am each day.

Step back in time and witness a sequence of dramatic events unfolding before you as the last Jacobite Rising enters its final months. The redcoats of King George are growing in confidence as the Jacobites retreat northwards, but they would be unwise to let down their guard… The programme of events will be the same each day. With thanks to the Alan Breck’s Volunteer Regiment.
